Padma Awards Announced

President has approved the conferment of 108 Padma Awards. These comprise 04 Padma Vibhushan, 24Padma Bhushan and 80 Padma Shri Awards. 24 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 11 persons in the category of Foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and Posthumous awardees.


UR Ananthamurthy in International Man Booker Prize shortlist

Kannada author UR Ananthamurthy has been shortlisted among 10 other authors for the International Man Booker Prize for Fiction. Ananthamurthy, 80, is the only Indian among to have made it to the final list of the prestigious prize announced at the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival here on Thursday. Ananthamurthy has written five novels, eight short story collections and three poetry collections that have been translated into other languages in India as well as in Europe.


U.R. Rao to join Satellite Hall of Fame

Prof U R Rao, former Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space is being honoured by the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) by inducting him as a Member of the highly prestigious “Satellite Hall of Fame”, Washington.


President Presents Krishi Karman Awards to States, Farmers for Outstanding Performance in 2011-12

he President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on 15 January 2013 presented the Krishi Karman Awards for the year 2011-2012 at an award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The awards were presented to the State Governments for their excellent performance in increasing the production of food grains in their respective states.


Kohli is CEAT cricketer of the year

Virat Kohli won the ‘CEAT international cricketer of the year’ 2011-12 award here on Friday. Kohli pipped South African batsman Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka, Australian captain Michael Clarke and Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal to get the award.
