The Imperial Council Resolutions.

Wed 12 Sep 2018

Amongst business transacted at the Imperial Legislative Council to-day [in Simla on September 11], a Government Bill was introduced to enable European British subjects above the age of fifty years to volunteer for the Indian Defence Force. Government statements were also made on resolutions moved by non-official members to the effect that (1) the Colonial authorities have agreed to legislation to remove abuses connected with Indian labourers in Fiji whose indentures have not yet expired and (2) the amendment of Indian Arms Act is in contemplation (a) to remove racial distinctions in regard to possession of arms and also (b) to facilitate the holding of gun licenses in the case of suitable persons, the intention being to extend both the areas to which such licenses are applicable and the periods for which they remain in force.
